A Y2K Quilt is a charm quilt with a main design based on 2000 pieces of fabric and whose purpose is to celebrate the Year 2000. The fabric for Y2K Quilts was obtained entirely by using the Internet to arrange to swap 2.5" or 3" charms with fellow quilters from around the world. Never before have so many quilters been able to so quickly and easily communicate and cooperate together to collect the fabric necessary for a quilt. Quiltmaking has gone high-tech in the Information Age!

Many Y2K quilters set the goal for themselves of collecting a packet of 25 charms plus a signature square from every part of the USA, Canada, and Australia, and as many other foreign places as possible. Some also collected short biographies from their fellow swappers, compiling them into scrapbooks to document the making of their Y2K Quilt. Four such scrapbooks can be found on this display table, along with the Official Exhibit Scrapbook.

Considering that each quilter began with 2000 charms, isn't it amazing just how different each Y2K Quilt really is. Every quilt is beautiful and unique and a testament to its maker's creativity.
